2-Day Tanzania Short Safari – Tarangire & Arusha National Parks
Experience one of Tanzania’s finest short safaris with this 2-day adventure that combines two iconic destinations — Tarangire National Park and Arusha National Park — offering exceptional wildlife viewing at a great value.
Your journey begins in Arusha, situated at the foothills of Mount Meru. After pickup from your hotel, we head southwest to Tarangire National Park, located approximately 118 km (75 miles) from Arusha along the Great North Road.
Covering 2,600 km², Tarangire features an impressive mix of habitats including open savannahs, seasonal swamps, acacia woodlands, and ancient baobab trees. The park is renowned for its large elephant population—around 4,000 elephants—as well as diverse wildlife such as Maasai giraffes, buffalos, lions, leopards, baboons, and numerous species of antelope and gazelle.
After lunch, enjoy extensive game drives through the park’s top wildlife areas and scenic viewpoints. The Tarangire River, the park’s only permanent water source, attracts vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest, and elephants, particularly during the dry season (July–October). Tarangire is also a haven for bird lovers, boasting over 100 bird species.
Spend the night at one of the park’s charming lodges or tented camps, such as Tarangire Sopa Lodge, Tarangire Safari Lodge, Osupuko Lodge, River Camp, Little Oliver’s Camp, or Sanctuary Swala Camp.
The following morning, depart for Arusha National Park, a short 1.5-hour drive away. This picturesque park is home to the world’s largest giraffe population, offering incredible photographic opportunities. Game drives provide sightings of waterbucks, Cape buffalos, elephants, blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, turacos, trogons, and occasionally lions or leopards.
If time permits, visit the Momela Lakes, famous for their flamingos and a variety of other resident and migratory waterbirds.
In the late afternoon, return to Arusha, marking the end of your unforgettable 2-day Tanzania short safari — a perfect blend of wildlife, scenery, and adventure.
